#2 Extensions that last a year
No glue, bonding or every-other-week salon visits!
Stars love the look of lengthening extensions, but what lies beneath them is often a knotty mess. Now there’s a discreet, innovative way to attach faux locks without ripping out or damaging hair.
“These extensions are added strand by strand, so manes look naturally long and thick,” says stylist Andrea Wise, owner of Atlanta’s Optimal Image salon and creator of the hair-on-hair technique. Unlike glued or sewn-in pieces that can loosen and fall out, these tied-on locks, made of real hair, are easily concealed and last up to 12 months before requiring a touch-up.
The initial application—which costs up to $6,500—requires a lot of chair time. “It takes about six 10-hour sessions, compared with about six hours total for bonded or glued extensions,” says Wise. The upside? “They’re boyfriend-proof! Now he can run his fingers through your hair without feeling, or seeing, chunks of glue. He won’t even realize the hair isn’t yours!”
With this new technique, women can “perm and color their hair without taking out their extensions,” says stylist Andrea Wise—unlike typical extensions like Lindsay Lohan’s.
The ugly side of old-school extensions
Britney Spears’ natural hair is so short, it doesn’t hide the bulky bondings.
Courtney Love’s faux pas? Using dark bonding glue to attach blond strands.
When Paris Hilton had extensions, they were visible through her fine platinum hair.
